I would like to personally thank Samuel and Ilidio, they were an amazing duo, they have great personal skills, knowledgeable and overall the best tour guide. We learned so much about the history of Mozambique and all our questions were answered. They made our experience unforgettable to a point where we felt like the tour shouldn’t end lol. I would definitely recommend this tour to anyone planning on visiting.

Free Walking Tour of Maputo

At the time you have booked, we'll start our free walking tour of Maputo at the central Independence Square. There you'll be able to see the façade of the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception. The church, inaugurated in 1944, has an enormous 61-metre-tall bell tower that is visible from many parts of the city.

Next to the cathedral is the Maputo City Hall, an imposing neoclassical building erected in 1947. Just in front of it, we'll see the colossal statue of Samora Machel. This political leader, president of Mozambique from 1975 to 1986, is considered the father of the country's independence.

We'll continue our free walking tour to the Franco-Mozambican Cultural Centre, which hosts exhibitions, film screenings, colloquiums and other important events. Not far from this building is another of the city's significant monuments. This is the Casa de Ferro: an old house that was prefabricated and imported from Belgium in 1892, and which served as the governor's residence.

The next stop on our tour of the capital of Mozambique will be at the city's old defensive fortress. The fort, which dates back to the 18th century, will give you great insight into the geographic importance of Maputo.

After an hour and a half of sightseeing, we'll conclude the free tour in front of the fortress, enjoying magnificent views of the bay of Maputo.
